SAD SALESMAN

SPUDS!

mini feature

May 2nd - June 1st, 2025

Opening Reception: First Friday, May 2nd, 2025

Arch Enemy Arts presents SPUDS!, our second collection of original sculptures by Brooklyn-based artist and vinyl toy creator Eric Althin (b.1980), better known as Sad Salesman. Thirty potato-people sculpted in various shapes and sizes with bushels of charisma remind us that a little joy can sprout in the most unexpected places.

“Creating characters, to me, is the greatest form of creativity. It’s like bringing new life into the world, for no practical reason other than for them to exist. To me, that feels like magic, a magic connected to the core of our humanity. Humans have made little totems, charms, and toys from the moment we started using tools. There is something powerful about physically manifesting ideas of a certain character or animal. We can hold it, play with it, wear it around our necks for luck, or put it on a shelf to admire, but it exists. It’s real.

“SPUDS! is a humorous look at people; the things we do, styles we choose, choices we make. It’s not easy being human…or a potato.” - Sad Salesman

SPUDS! will be on view from May 2nd - June 1st, 2025
Sold works will begin to ship the week starting June 8th, unless other rush shipping arrangements have been made.

Items marked with a red dot have already been sold.
