MICHAEL CAMARRA

PILGRIMAGE TO THE ELECTRIC GROVE

solo exhibition

October 3rd - November 2nd, 2025

Opening Reception: First Friday, October 3rd• 5-9pm

Arch Enemy Arts presents PILGRIMAGE TO THE ELECTRIC GROVE by Michael Camarra. Twelve raucous yet reverent paintings, staged like fluorescent prophesies, guide viewers through the sacred woods of a postapocalyptic future. Camarra’s work is a seductive mashup of spiritual references, narrative technopop, and the harbingers of technology—creating stories of a timeless future in which electricity has subsumed all things.

“As a setting, the postapocalypse is fraught with morose imagery rooted in some cataclysm that results in the fall of civilization. Whereas some try to mine that bleakness as a parable, I see it as fertile territory to think about the reemergence of civilization. A place that has space to project mysticism, fantasy and wonder.” - Michael Camarra

Camarra’s dystopia reads like an energetic trance. It’s psychedelic cyberpunk, and it is teeming with symbols of classical, pagan, and occult traditions. Sensuous priestesses recall the idyllic nudes of antiquity. Tree-born seers worship relics of a future revelation. But the shrines here are made from felled streetlights and desecrated payphones. Worshippers make offerings of electric flesh, pink and glowing. These hot hits of neon engulfed in deep forests of blue and dioxazine purple buzz with ancient electricity. Painted in a sleek style of graphic realism, Camarra creates his own future mythology that takes place in the past.

Michael Camarra (b. 1983) is based in Ardsley, NY. He studied at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and, in addition to his gallery work, he also works as a brand Creative Director.
