Arch Enemy Arts presents HEARTBEATS, an intimate collection of five new paintings by Dewi Plass and a body of work shaped by love, loss, and protecting all that’s dear. Created in the wake of her father’s passing, each piece carries Dewi’s enduring connection to her father. For years, she painted exclusively on panels crafted by his hands. In his absence, the artist turned to a tondo format for this show, sourcing circular panels that symbolize the time she finds herself in—not encapsulated by corners and rigid lines but unconfined, fragile, reflective, and free.

“This show focuses on ways in which we can let our hearts speak. After unexpectedly losing my Dad late last year, I was confronted with not only an unimaginable amount of sadness, but also an immense amount of appreciation and love. Thinking of what he has given me during his life ignites a kind of gratitude that my heart almost can’t cope with. It is something that can hardly be described. Losing him made me even more determined to honor all that he has given me and to honor all the splendor he introduced into my life. It made me especially aware that even in times of grief — or perhaps especially in times of grief — it is so incredibly important to pave the paths to one's heart with kindness, softness, and grace. And to nourish that heart, as that is where all that is dear continues to live.

They are an homage to the safe haven that my dad was to me, to his unconditional love and to the beauty he added to my life. These ‘heartbeats’ are ways of letting the heart speak. Ways to remember. Dewi [day-vee] Plass (b. 1990) is based in the Netherlands in a small town near the German border where she was raised. Self-taught as a painter, Dewi is deeply inspired by the wisdom and wonder of the natural world. She conveys gentle narratives through compositions of animals that are soft, detailed, and atmospheric, brilliantly rendering them as if emerging from an ethereal haze. Dewi got her start at Arch Enemy Arts, exhibiting her first gallery show with us in 2017, and her career has since exploded, showing in galleries across the U.S. and around the world. Thus, we are deeply proud to host HEARTBEATS, her first collection of paintings since the loss of her father, and a show steeped in tender reflections of love and family.

HEARTBEATS will be on view from April 18th - May 10th, 2026
Sold works will begin to ship the week starting May 17th, unless other rush shipping arrangements have been made.
