VASILISA ROMANENKO

FLORA & FLIGHT

solo exhibition

May 1st - 31st, 2026

Opening Reception: First Friday, May 1st, 2026

Arch Enemy Arts presents FLORA & FLIGHT, Vasilisa Romanenko’s fifth solo feature with the gallery. In her previous collection, BIRDS & BLOOMS, Romanenko shifted away from her signature black backgrounds, replacing their striking intensity with quieter, more subdued palettes that allow for a subtler, ‘meatier’ use of color. In this series, she takes that evolution a step further, leaning even more into nuanced and expressive hues, textures, and compositional structures. Each bird in Vasilisa’s work carries such a wonderful sense of form and character. Each leaf and flower feels varied and alive. And while her compositions are still deeply inspired by pattern and repetition, they too are incredibly expressive in their rhythms, full of energy and movement, like the flutter of wings as spring comes to life.

“With this series, I am channeling the joys of spring time in the garden. My garden is my happy place, an escape from the heaviness of the world, so I translate that onto canvas. In these paintings, I’ve incorporated flowers that I’ve planted or plan to grow this year, with many shades of coral, pink, yellow, and orange. I enjoy watching the birds in my backyard flower garden all year long, so there is plenty of inspiration. We often take these feathered friends for granted, not realizing how much the small ecosystems we create can have an effect on their lives. I think that for those of us with access to outdoor space, there are small things we can do to be stewards of the land to help improve the lives of other living creatures.” - Vasilisa Romanenko

Vasilisa Romanenko (b. 1987) is based in Connecticut. A daughter of artists, she was constantly creating throughout her childhood and went on to study Illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She has since cultivated a loyal following and collector-base for her unique combination of fine art, decorative patternwork, and textbook style of botanical illustration. Romanenko began showing with AEA through our 2020 Spotlight Showcase, thus it is an honor to present her fifth solo feature FLORA & FLIGHT.

FLORA & FLIGHT will be on view from May 1st - 31st, 2026
Sold works will begin to ship the week starting May 3rd, unless other rush shipping arrangements have been made.
