RICHARD AHNERT

CONNECTIONS

June 5th - July 5th, 2026

Closing Reception: First Friday, June 5th, 2025

Arch Enemy Arts presents CONNECTIONS by Richard Ahnert. Ten charming new paintings in oil on canvas feature anthropomorphized bears, cats, wolves, and foxes as they navigate familiar moments of everyday life. A fox waits for the bus as if late for work (Anywhere But Here), a cat slumps in front of her morning coffee (Not Today), and two wolves watch TV glowing in the snow (Steady Dose). These quiet moments take on new meaning under Ahnert’s gentle hand. His expressive brushwork, warm palette, and painterly ease imbue each tender scene and mundane encounter with humor, intimacy, and importance.

“CONNECTIONS is inspired by the subtle, often contradictory ways we experience connection in everyday life—through isolation, longing, conflict, moments of understanding, and misunderstanding. I aim to evoke a sense of recognition and introspection, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own experiences and needs despite contemporary feelings of disconnection and polarization within the modern social landscape.” - Richard Ahnert

Richard Ahnert is based in Toronto and studied Technical Illustration and Graphic Design at York University and Seneca College. Showing with Arch Enemy Arts since 2017, CONNECTIONS marks Ahnert’s fourth solo feature with the gallery.
