KIT CURRY
SEMI-CURSED LIFE
November 7th - 30th, 2025
Opening Reception: First Friday, November 7th from 5pm - 9pm
Arch Enemy Arts presents SEMI-CURSED LIFE by Kit Curry, who conjures friendship as erotic magic in ten new, multi-figure tableaus. In this work, gentle yet uninhibited love becomes a roadmap for survival as sensual witches, horny demons, marvelous nudes and creatures of the dark gather before worlds of apocalyptic ruin. In palettes inspired by 90s 16-bit video games and with titles referencing some beloved nostalgia-pop playlists, it’s easy to find fun in Kit’s work.
At the same time, we cannot overstate the seriousness of Kit’s technique. Their masterful compositions, nuanced character-building and earnest, story-driven imagination is inspired. In Kit’s work, dynamic and complex groups of bodies-in-motion create strong lines, diagonals, and swirls constructed through endless coincidental alignments – like a hand connecting to a knee or a scythe pointing to a toe – guiding our eyes through each scene. There’s so much energy and motion, we move effortlessly around the picture plane, urged to explore every narrative detail, from the crinkled Chinese food bag in “Girl Dinner” to the shadowy red-eyed demon’s knee in “You’re Never Alone with a Book.”
“I’m inspired by Romanticism, Symbolism, and especially the Decadent movement, as well as the work of Goya, and the Witch picture tradition from the Renaissance and early modern period. Witchcraft and magic represent, to me, that which is unanalyzable, unknowable; things for which even a logical and reasoned explanation would feel inadequate and hollow – things like joy and love and the power of art itself…I think of my pictures as illustrations to absent stories, and I want to encourage people to think playfully, to envision the larger narrative from which each little moment might be drawn.”
Kit Curry (b.1987) lives in The Berkshires, Massachusetts. Largely self-taught, their education is rooted in a deep, personal study of illustration, the Old Masters, and a degree in Literature. Kit began showing with Arch Enemy Arts in 2023 with our Spotlight Showcase exhibition, and SEMI-CURSED LIFE is their second solo feature with the gallery.
