Arch Enemy Arts presents [PLACE]HOLDER, the debut exhibition by Allentown-based artist Corinne Lalik, creator of Holly Jean Studios. Inspired by folk art and quilting traditions, Lalik makes impeccably crafted wooden wall ornaments, overdoors, and decorative shelves, many of which are hand-painted into intimate windows looking out over dreamlike landscapes. Surrounded by repeating floral patterns and rhythmic linework, these decorative sculptural objects blend form and function, inviting collectors to envision how the work may interact with the stuff of their lives. 

 

“I started making shelves in 2019 to serve as pedestals for the artwork of my friends. I love being able to curate the shrine and rotate the handmade mugs that I use on them. I put plants on them, my dog Holly’s ashes (the namesake of Holly Jean Studios), candles, and sculptures. I have a beautiful life, and I am a collector and designator of significance to all kinds of things. I make placeholders, but it’s you who chooses the meaning, you who completes the story. It’s you who decides where and what it will hold; ashes, memories, artwork, whatever it is, it’s the residue of these beautiful moments of everyday life that you choose to honor.” - Corinne Lalik

 

Corinne Lalik (b. 1993) graduated from Tyler School of Art with a BFA in Glass in 2015. She and her husband Nick launched Holly Jean Studios in March of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and have since cultivated an ardent collector-base with independent online releases. [PLACE]HOLDER is the first true exhibition of work from Holly Jean Studios, offering a rare opportunity to see the complete collection as a cohesive installation with each object in conversation, like a quilted constellation or gathering of shared memories.

Sold works will begin to ship the week starting May 17th, unless other rush shipping arrangements have been made.
