BRIANA HERTZOG

FEAST

June 5th - July 5th, 2026

Closing Reception: First Friday, June 5th, 2025

Arch Enemy Arts presents FEAST by Briana Hertzog. Eight new works in oil on canvas featuring spiral-eyed animal-humanoids devouring some less-than-vegetarian crudités. Bizarre, wildly cute, and masterfully composed, Hertzog’s tight, technical rendering and insane attention to detail (even down to perfectly lined, contrast-color edges) transform highly stylized, psychedelic pop imagery into something truly refined and dimensional. For FEAST, Hertzog employs pastel colors, notoriously muted and muddy to work with, by making them feel rich and brightly saturated. She does this through triad combinations like pink, pale yellow, and grayish blue (Garden Feast) or mint green, peach, and lavender (Ripe to the Core); colors near-equidistant on the color wheel providing high contrast, big impact palettes as powerful—and delicious—as the underlying themes of the show.

“FEAST evokes connotations of indulgence and pleasure, and conversely, ones of animalistic instinct and aggression. While I haven’t fully fleshed out why I’m so fascinated with imagery of predator and prey, I do think it serves as a metaphor for power. Most of the main characters in these works are female. They are the ones holding the power and strength in my narratives. Maybe it's the idea of taking back power that fascinates me. The woman is in charge.” - Briana Hertzog

Briana Hertzog (b. 1987) is based in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and went to VCU, where she studied illustration and built an early career as an illustrator. Briana began showing with Arch Enemy Arts after submitting to our 2023 Spotlight Showcase, launching her work into galleries and fairs across the country. Following her debut solo last year, we are honored to present FEAST, her second feature with the gallery.
