Maryann Held

PHILADELPHIA, PA

Local painter Maryann Held delights the eye with carefully rendered animal subjects and vibrant floral patterns inspired by Pennsylvania Dutch folk art and ancient illuminated manuscripts. Her work is both decorative and devotional, a celebration of color, texture and depth that captures a playful, occult beauty in nature.

Held attended the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and has been working professionally as a painter and illustrator for over ten years, specializing in children’s book illustration. In 2018, she was granted a selective exhibition and residency with the historic Barnes Foundation. Held has shown with Arch Enemy Arts since our 2020 open call Spotlight Showcase. Immediately appealing to our collectors, she’s had four AEA solo features and exhibited in countless group shows every year since.
