Joey Chiarello

BUFFALO, NY

Joseph Chiarello (b.1978) is a self-taught ceramic artist from Colorado and based in Hawai’i, who creates surreal animal-inspired artworks out of stoneware, porcelain, and paper clay. A widely exhibited teaching artist, Joey has led educational programs with the Honolulu Museum of Art. Often incorporating traditional folk art and aesthetics, his work is a meditation on nature and history, the power and fragility of our environment, and the introspective, magical symbolism he finds in the animals of our world.
