Fran De Anda
MEXICO CITY
Fran De Anda creates anthropomorphic portraits by combining contemporary magical realism with ancient Baroque symbolism. Using traditional techniques to grind his own pigments, tempera oil, and gold and silver leaf, as well as positioning his subjects atop a solid gold-ground, De Anda calls to mind ancient religious artwork, imbuing his playfully wrought creatures with gravity and sacred mysticism.
Fran De Anda lives and works in Mexico City, and he studied Art and Design at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He began exhibiting with Arch Enemy Arts in 2023, hosting his first solo exhibition with the gallery in July 2024.
