Calamity Cole

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Calamity Cole creates intricately narrative, mixed media dreamscapes populated by playful and mischievous little girls. Deeply inspired by children’s books, her paintings are like fairy tales for grownups, aimed at recreating the imaginative world we experienced as children.

Calamity Cole describes her work as low-brow surrealism illustrations, and she studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the San Francisco Art Institute. Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, she has had long periods of time when she has not been able to make art or use her hands and arms, and she wants “other artists or people newly diagnosed with RA to know that there is hope.”
