Arch Enemy Arts is elated to present UNDER HEAVY SKIES, a new original series by mixed-media sculptor and contemporary folk artist, Kristen Egan. A fantastical display of nine unique masks, the artist treats us to an array of her distinctive mythological creatures as they materialize through the infinite cycle of the seasons.
A regional native, Kristen works out of her studio in Northern Berks County, PA, a locale in which she has called home since returning from college in 2007. Activating a technique that the artist has developed over the course of 15 years, each mask is skillfully crafted from gourds, wood, and clay, then reverently adorned with paint, metal leaf, brass bells, cotton and leather cord. The works hearken a specificity in seasonal embellishment as they are clad in the tones and colors of our recent autumnal skies. Lively and expressive, playful and cunning, her creations evoke a collective consciousness of folktale and myth, brilliantly hallmarked by Kristen's characteristic style.
UNDER HEAVY SKIES is Kristen Egan’s fifth solo feature with Arch Enemy Arts, following January’s sold out exhibition, All Things It Devours.
