GHOSTS OF THE GARDEN

feature

Friday • July 1st, 2022

Arch Enemy Arts is pleased to present: GHOSTS OF THE GARDEN, our debut feature of acrylic painter Molly Devlin. Displaying 5 new and original works from Molly’s transfigurative imagination, the show presents beautifully executed paintings of both oceanic and terrestrial anomalies.

Molly is no stranger to delivering the preternatural, oftentimes creating bioluminescent and anthropomorphic creatures drifting through magnificent, inky depths. Glowing and transparent, the gossamer quality of her creations with subtle and surrealistic hybridization entertains the imagination as well as it delights the eye. Touching life beyond the leagues, she unites plant and body to craft near-totemic forest spirits that look out from within the leaves.

Citing her muses and the source of her dreamlike creations, she writes:

“As a mortal human, I find such inspiration in the veil between life and death. I imagine ghosts as nothing but little particles that are searching for their place in our ecosystem to find meaning as new life. Although it’s not something we can truly witness, In my work I like to explore how earth's creatures are sewn together from all the little parts that frolic in the atmosphere, and their symbiotic need for one another to survive, behind the curtain of the unseen eye.

All of nature’s creatures have this effect on the world we live in, it’s why when one species goes extinct there are substantial consequences to how we go on living and why highlighting the little intricacies remains important to me in how I like to portray it.”
