o night,
you take the petals of the roses in your hand,
but leave the stark core of the rose,
to perish on the branch
- H.D.
Michelle Avery’s debut Arch Enemy feature uses night time as a vehicle to dive into the ways out emotions and perception can change after dark. The way the shadows grow out of the corners, feelings of vulnerability and comfort, and that becomes hidden from our view and how we see them when their literal shapes are obscured by dark run throughout the new collection, titled after a verse from her favorite poet with whom Michelle shares a home town.
Michelle’s work paints into her imagination and try to push the boundaries of her medium and defy expectations of what watercolor work should be in both technique and presentation. Each piece reveals beauty that lies within the ugliness of reality.
