ERICH J. MOFFITT: TOY CHEST APOCALYPSE
solo show
July 7 - 29, 2017
A staple in Arch Enemy group shows for several years, Erich J. Moffitt’s debut Arch Enemy feature plays to what he does best, brightly colored, whimsical, illustrative, storybook-like paintings, for a new collection inspired by Albrecht Dürer’s woodcuts illustrating the scenes of the New Testament Book of Revelations. Toy Chest Apocalypse explores the characters and narratives of the apocalypse through a child’s fantasy of vintage and modern toys come to life. Here, themes of prophecy, epic celestial conflict, and monstrous horror are colorfully and irreverently explored with tin robots, vinyl collectibles, and action figures.
