Arch Enemy Arts is thrilled to present a new solo show of Philadelphia’s own, David Seidman, The Poison Within Sleep. Featuring seven of Seidman’s latest digital works, the series is inspired by the artist’s own introspection, channeling sadness, stress, and anxiety into a reflective and creative process.
Masterfully rendering what can only be described as “dark surrealism,” Seidman is one of few digital artists shown by Arch Enemy Arts. While trained in more traditional media, Seidman has been a digital artist for over 20 years, and his experience allows him to learn from every piece he creates. His own favorite of the collection, "Torn Apart" is a testament to this process, redeveloping one of the concepts that first brought him to the medium. Balancing ethereal lighting with arresting compositions, each of the works presents a haunting focus into the terrors that disrupt our sleep. Displaying a delicate motion like the tossing and turning of a nightmare, the subjects melt, twist, and bend into baroque detail and back to quiet stillness. Each digital painting is archivally printed, mounted, embellished, and varnished by the artist’s hand, framed in pieces collected by Seidman as a one of one edition.
Of his inspiration for this new series, the artist says:
“As dark as my work is, I don’t consider myself an artist that uses his own
personal demons to inspire the work. Over the last year however, as a way to
find a better way to handle those demons, I decided to open pandora’s box a bit
to see what comes out. The new series was a way for me to personally take all
the energy I was using to fight off anxiety, stress, and depression and channel it
into something productive and creative.”
The Poison Within Sleep is David’s fifth exclusive show with AEA since 2013.
DAVID SEIDMAN's feature will be physically on view from November 19th - December 19th.
