JoKa

PHILADELPHIA, PA

Local artist JoKa is a pop-surrealist painter, who creates hyper-pointillist paintings in elaborate, hand-constructed frames. Resurrecting techniques from 19th century masters like Georges Seurat and Paul Signac, JoKa uses toothpicks to layer distinct dots of color, masterfully manipulating viewers’ optic responses to discern mind-bending, dark, and humorous compositions.

Self-taught as an artist, JoKa has managed to create a singular style as one of the only pop-surrealist painters employing pointillism in their work today, demonstrating an admirable irreverence matched only by the content of his works. JoKa has been showing with Arch Enemy Arts since 2015, hosting his first solo-feature with the gallery in 2021.
