Allison Sommers

BERLIN, GERMANY

Allison Sommers (b.1983) works in mixed media and gouache to create fluid, amorphous compositions that are at once beautiful and grotesque. Sommers leaves their work open to interpretation, but their paintings feel powerful and inherently political, exploring themes about the body, identity, and pain. The material surface of Sommers’ work, often constructed using paper collage and assemblage as well as paint, is as seductive and meaty as the subjects they contain.

Sommers was born in the southern United States and raised in a military family on Cold War era air force bases. Self-taught as an artist, Sommers studied History at the University of Virginia and began exhibiting their work professionally in 2007 across the US and Europe. Sommers has participated in more than ten group shows at Arch Enemy Arts since the gallery’s inception in 2014, with their first solo feature in June 2025.
