The Enchanted Pet Shop
January 22nd, 2021
Arch Enemy Arts is pleased to present Andrea Guzzetta’s “The Enchanted Pet Shop,” an eleven-piece series of oil paintings in pink, purple, neon, and gold leaf that can only be described as religious iconography meets Lisa Frank. Each painting is a portrait of a starry-eyed furry friend, who stares longingly from a dreamscape of flowers and clouds, haloed by rainbows, hearts, and butterflies. Guzzetta writes, “My work is already full of dreamy pastels and rainbows, but [for this series] I was inspired by the littlest pet shop toys of my youth. I just couldn't stop drawing cute animals, retreating into my own imagination, and creating loving backstories for each of them.” With this series, Guzzetta welcomes us into her dreamworld of sweet nostalgia and offers a glimpse into how she’s found comfort in challenging times.
Andrea Guzetta was born in Wisconsin, and currently works out of Los Angeles. This is Guzzetta’s debut feature with AEA following her participation in our 2020 Open Call and Small Wonders exhibitions.
